The new VW Mk8 Golf R has a different ‘R’ on its a*se

In a shocking turn of events said to have alarmed the Queen of England and rocked the very globe on its axis, VW has decided to build a new Golf R. And here’s the proof.

Yes, after the Mk7 Golf R’s combination of 300hp, four-wheel drive all-weather deployability and ‘quite nice in here, isn’t it’ interior made it sell faster than a family pack of loo roll, the Mk8 is of course aiming to repeat the formula.

VW has confirmed the new Golf R will be powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, driving “an innovative all-wheel drive system featuring selective wheel torque control on the rear axle.” Expect over 300hp, a twin-clutch gearbox, and potentially more agile handling than the Golf’s privately educated cousin, the Audi S3. Awkward.

As we can see, the Golf R will be available with trademark blue paintwork, and VW’s drawn up a new ‘R’ logo for its bottom. Expect to see this ‘R’ featured in the front grille, on the seats, on the steering wheel, in the screens, the floor mats, and on the owner’s heavily tattooed arms. Maybe.

Excited?
