This specially commissioned Ferrari 812 Competizione is a 9,500rpm V12 sketchbook on wheels

Ferrari has revealed its latest ‘Tailor Made’ one-off – a unique 812 Competizione resplendent in Giallo Tristrato and featuring a special livery.

That’s ‘yellow’, of course, to mirror the “now iconic yellow cards on which Maranello designers transfer their first ideas, insights and notes”, according to Ferrari. Which of course means this is an 830hp two-door sketchpad.

The very best kind of sketchpad, then.

We’re told this special livery mimic the lines originally sketched out by the 812 Comp’s designer, here traced over the car’s body in matte black. Lines like the carbonfibre blade that cuts across the bonnet, the side louvres and the rear vortex generators on the rear screen. You will quickly realise there is no rear screen for this 812, the rear view instead coming courtesy of a new camera.

It's a similar story inside, too, with new Alcantara layered over the cockpit and finished with embroidering that matches the design sketches.

There’s no further sketching on the drivetrain, but it wants for nothing: the 6.5-litre V12 screams to 9,500rpm and already delivers more power than the Superfast and a noise that’d wake up the dead.

Or, as Ferrari puts it, “sound that Maranello’s 12-cylinder purists know so well”.

Commissioned by Ferrari North America itself, this one-off 812 Competizione will be auctioned on 17 October at the Ferrari Gala in New York, with the proceeds donated to charity.

Bet it goes for a fortune, but you could enjoy a similar effect if you handed out a basked of felt-tip pens to a load of toddlers and invited them to the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
