There'll be a supercharged V6 in the facelifted Genesis GV80

Not something we’d have earmarked for a supercharged V6 with 415hp and 550Nm, but the Genesis GV80 is about to become just such a car with a refreshed version revealed in Korea.

Well, that’s true of the coupe at least: the electric supercharger leaves the 3.5-litre turbo to its own devices in the SUV (so a mere 380hp/528Nm there) while a smaller, 2.5-litre alternative brings 304hp and 422Nm to the table.

The changes are part of a mid-life facelift that also introduces tweaks inside and out. Outside first: you’ll notice that the designers have found room for even more grilleage and bigger air intakes - for improved cooling apparently - while the headlights have been mildly tweaked.

Meanwhile the rear is more curvaceous than before, with some of the more angular lines filed down for a softer overall look. Yours in a choice of a dozen colours, no less, and either 20- or 22-inch alloys.

Arguably the more important updates appear in the cabin (not that Genesis has provided any pictures, weirdly): there’s now a 27-inch digital display spanning half the dashboard, a two-tone steering wheel, a centre console finished with leather, aluminium and wood, an ‘improved’ pedal design (eh?), bigger cup holders and physical knob to adjust volume. The climate controls are all touch-based as before though. Eep.

Meanwhile the wireless charging pad has been reconfigured to make it easier to see your phone. Arguably we’d all be better off if they were entirely hidden from view…

"Today, we mark an important milestone in our journey to success,” says Genesis’s chief brand officer, Graeme Russell. “As the boundaries of luxury continue to be redefined, Genesis believes that the GV80 and GV80 Coupe will cater to the ever-evolving needs of our discerning customers.”
