Porsche Taycan 4S Cross Turismo makes Taycan Record Run from Thailand to Singapore in 29 Hours 15 minutes

Singapore - As part of the ongoing festivities in Porsche's 75th Anniversary year, the brand has celebrated yet another historic milestone.

With official timekeeping duties handled by TAG Heuer, Porsche has set the fastest single journey in an EV from Thailand to Singapore over a distance of some 1845km – a feat that has been entered into the Singapore and Malaysia Book of Records.

Three journalists from Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore took turns to cover the distance from Bang Yai (on the outskirts of Bangkok) to Singapore's iconic Gardens by the Bay, crossing the finish-line at 1015am, 19th July 2023.

Thanks to a factory firmware update in 2022, the Taycan 4S Cross Turismo now boasts a range of up to 512km on a full-charge. Furthermore, Porsche's elevated all-electric 'shooting brake' was specially prepped for the overland odyssey with additional space and ground clearance to tackle diverse road conditions.

Throughout the journey, the Shell Recharge HPC network with its 180 to 360 kW ABB chargers provided ultra-rapid charging speeds, especially thanks to the Taycan’s unique 800V charging architecture. In fact, each charging interval en route lasted no more than 25 minutes on average.

“Our first all-electric sports car, the Porsche Taycan, is already the benchmark for sporty performance, dynamic handling and efficient charging. Now, we elevate the use- case for electric cars even further, by showing that long-distance, cross-border EV travel can be both fast and seamless with this first-ever Thailand-to-Singapore EV record,” said Mr. Andre Brand, General Manager of Porsche Singapore.

“Together with our partners Shell Recharge, ABB E-Mobility, Michelin and TAG Heuer, we want to thank our three drivers for completing this historic run. This remarkable achievement underlines Porsche’s ambition to be pioneers for sustainable mobility,” Mr. Brand continued.

“This new regional record is a testament to Shell’s reliable and high-quality charging facilities all across the Shell Recharge network in Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore,” said Mr. Doong Shiwen, General Manager of Mobility Singapore at Shell.

“We are delighted to make our EV customers’ journeys smooth and efficient – and take another step closer to achieving Shell's goal of net-zero emissions by 2050 under our Powering Progress strategy.”

“ABB E-mobility is proud to collaborate with Porsche and Shell Recharge in this Record Run. This event is a great platform to showcase the ever-growing possibilities for electrification journeys, leading to net zero emissions and a more sustainable future. The Taycan Record Run also demonstrates how EV charging experience can be user- friendly and most importantly, safe for EV drivers,” commented Wee Jin Lee, Region Lead Asia Pacific, ABB E-Mobility.
