Yes, the actual Ferrari Testarossa from Miami Vice could be yours

For the first two seasons of 1980s television series Miami Vice, Sonny ' played by Don Johnson ' drove a replica Ferrari Daytona Spider. It was based on a Corvette, apparently.

But then the third series happened. And in waltzed the Ferrari Testarossa; specifically, the white Testarossa 'hero car' in the pictures above. And the good news for fans of the 1980s is that it is coming up for auction.

Mecum Auctions is offering up this white Ferrari – it was originally black but repainted white for better visibility during night scenes – complete with that excellent single side mirror, a beige leather interior, and just 25,949km on the clock.

Oh, there's also the small matter of that 4.9-litre flat-12 engine, producing 385bhp and 490Nm of torque, channeled through a 5spd gearbox powering the rear wheels. Speed? There was some, sure. It could accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 5.8secs, and top out at 290km/h.

This particular car was 'retired' once the show ended in 1989, and, unusually, spent from 1990 right through to 2015 in storage. It's been authenticated by Ferrari North America and Ferrari Classiche, and was recently treated to an 'engine-out' service costing over S$10,000.

It'll go under the hammer at Mecum's Monterey sale, which takes place on 13 August. We reckon It'll fetch significantly more than the S$311,000 or so you'll pay for a Testarossa that hasn't been brushed by fame.

But tell us ' where does this sit in your personal list of all-time coolest TV cars? There's a tonne of contenders, naturally, including K.I.T.T, Inspector Morse's Jaguar MkII, the Capri from The Professionals and, of course, the lovely Volvo P1800 from The Saint. And that's just the start'
