This is the 280+km/h Range Rover Sport SVR ‘Ultimate’

Fun fact: since it launched in 2014, Land Rover has shifted over 20,000 Range Rover Sport SVRs.

This is the latest, and it is called the ‘Ultimate’ edition.

To entirely mangle an oft-quoted phrase then, look upon its flanks, ye puny earthlings, and despair: this is a 280+km/h, 2.3-tonne heavyweight packing a supercharged 5.0-litre V8 and – now – very fancy new paint options.

This Ultimate edition Rangey SVR has been treated to three new colour choices. Two of them – the blue you see here and a grey gloss – feature “highly reflective fine white glass flake particles” in the base coat. The end result? It sparkles. The third is a black satin option if you want to go full Dark Knight spec.

There’s a body-coloured carbonfibre vent, new 22in forged alloys with black brake calipers and black detailing elsewhere. Inside you’ll find some chrome badging, black anodised metal gearshift paddles, illuminated treadplates, lightweight SVR ‘performance’ seats and some leather.

Oh right, you’re still hung up on the whole ‘5.0-litre supercharged V8’ thing. Well, it is a mighty thing – 575hp and 700Nm of torque, matched to an eight-speed auto to enable a 0-100km/h time of just 4.5secs and that 280+km/h top speed. We say ‘just’ because… it weighs 2,377kg. This is not a small car.
