Mazda CX-5 gets a mid-life update. Only the 2.0 is retained, three trim options available

Singapore - Mazda’s compact SUV, the CX-5, receives a middle-of-life update, and now only comes with a 2.0. There will be three variants available, “base” Elegance, middle-of-the-pack Luxury and range-topping Luxury Sports.

Exterior styling changes are subtle, and include a thicker grille surround, squared-off LED DRLs, and new bumpers. There are also new alloys to go with the facelift, and a new body colour, Zircon Sand.

The interior remains largely unchanged, but now, all CX-5 SUVs are equipped with a wireless smartphone charger. Both Apple and Android devices are supported, though users Android devices will still need to make-do with a cable.

The Elegance trim car receives a visual lift, with lime green accents on its air-conditioning vents, and matching seat stitching. The Luxury Sports model on the other hand… sports more serious red stitching on black leather. Additionally, both the Luxury and Luxury Sports variants come standard with ventilated seats, and are now equipped with a hands-free power tailgate for added convenience. Upping the versatility game, the cargo features a water-resistant wipeable luggage tray, to allow for wet items to be placed in the boot.

There is just one power option which is carried over, an efficient high-compression 2.0 Skyactiv-G engine, good for 165ps and 213Nm. The proven 6-speed automatic has also been retained.

Mazda has also softened the suspension, and revised some of its componentry, for an improved driving experience. The result is a more supple ride, with reduced road noise. Ride quality is further improved by Mazda’s signature G-Vectoring Control Plus (GVC Plus). The system subtly toggles torque and braking around corners, to reduce body sway.

Steven Teo, Managing Director of Mazda Singapore, says: “We are excited to welcome the arrival of the new Mazda CX-5 as it is an important model in Mazda’s product line. This sporty SUV has been a model of Japanese premium craftsmanship paired with reliability and performance. With the introduction of new grade selections to suit difference preferences, this model continues to promise excellent driver engagement, style, quality finishes and most importantly, utmost comfort.”

The Mazda CX-5 is available in 9 colours, which includes the new Zircon Sand metallic, and two premium colours, Soul Red Crystal Metallic and Machine Grey Metallic.
