Here's every generation of the Honda Civic Type R. Which one's your favourite?

EK9

Technically forbidden fruit for us in the UK, the first ever Civic Type R was only sold in Japan between 1997 and 2000. With three doors, a kerbweight of less than 1,100kg, a proper limited-slip diff and a 1.6-litre DOHC VTEC engine making over 180bhp, is this 1990s hot hatch heaven?

From 2001 to 2005, the EP3 was built in the UK with a 2.0-litre engine and a shell that was 80 per cent stiffer than the EK9’s. Loved to cock a rear wheel, didn’t it?

For the third-gen Type R, Honda split its approach with Europe getting the FN2 hatch and Japan getting the FD2 saloon. Got a favourite between the two, Internet?

The first turbocharged Type R arrived in 2015, with fairly bonkers looks, a hefty 306bhp and a 0-62mph time of just 5.7 seconds.

The most controversial Civic Type R of all? The FK8 wasn’t exactly a looker, but dynamically it wiped the floor with its hot hatch competition…
