Eco de Niro! Second generation KIA Niro Hybrid launched

Singapore - KIA’s local distributor Cycle & Carriage launches the second-generation Niro Hybrid Today. The new crossover is a more refined and better-equipped offering than its predecessor.

KIA's small hybrid SUV has also grown in size, being about 65mm longer and 20mm wider. The wheelbase has also been extended by 20mm, which also translates to slightly improved interior space. Speaking about interiors, the Niro has double-pressed front windows and front windshield, which means that it is more silent.

The dash gets a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which can be wirelessly paired to both Apple and Android devices. Like many new cars, the Niro (SX trim) now has a shift-by-wire gear… erm shift, which neatens up the interior. Rear passengers benefit from single-step reclining seats.

The more premium SX trim car also gets a 10.25-inch full digital supervision cluster. It also receives a wireless smartphone charger, and electronically adjustable ventilated front seats. Other SX-ey benefits include Smart Cruise Control, Safe Exit Assist and Blind-Spot Collision Assist.

The group’s new 1.6-litre Smartstream engine replaces the Kappa unit, producing 130ps and 144Nm. With the hybrid drivetrain, fuel consumption is listed at 4.0l/100km (25km/l). While compacts like the Cerato are now offered with the group's new Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT), the Niro Hybrid retains its 6-speed DCT.

The second-generation KIA Niro Hybrid is available now, with prices beginning at S$153,999* for the EX, while the more premium SX retails at $168,999*. Buyers of the mass-market SUV will benefit from a 10-year engine and lithium battery warranty.
