BYD’s newest SUV, the Atto 3 EV launched in Singapore

Singapore - As we continue to embrace electric cars, Chinese EV brand BYD launches their all-new EV, the Atto 3. The new SUV hits the streets with a lunch price of $178,888* inclusive of COE, and will take on SUVs like the Hyundai Kona Electric.

In the flesh, the Atto 3 looks much bigger than in photos. It has a wheelbase of 2720mm, which is almost identical to the Mazda CX-5. One of the first things which hits us is that build quality is exceptionally good, both inside and out.

There is also an impressive list of frills which the Atto boasts, most of which can be toggled from the 12.8-inch motorised infotainment touchscreen, which can present itself in both horizontal and vertical layouts. The Atto 3 will have both wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto available in the fourth-quarter of the year. We understand that current buyers will be able to update their operating systems over the air, once this is available. Also coming later this year, is the infotainment’s Smart Voice Assistance, which will give you voice-activated control over some of the car’s features - much like what BMW and Mercedes-Benz currently provides.

Interestingly, the Atto 3 also has a Vehicle-To-Load (V2L) Mobile Power Supply Function, which turns the car into a power supply for other applications; we can think of some new owners hosting a barbeque in their garden, with the car powering additional lights and an ice box. This is taken from the car’s 60.5kWh battery, which BYD say, can be topped up with a high speed 80kW DC charge.

We snagged a quick drive in the Atto 3, and to our pleasant surprise, it is equipped with a multi-link rear suspension, which means it does not get untidy over bumpy surfaces. BYD claims that their new electric SUV will deliver a range of 480km, and clocks 100km/h in a respectable 7.3 seconds. It’s official consumption is rated at 14.9kWh/100km.

In the pipeline, BYD might be launching the Atto 2, a smaller EV hatchback, which could attract another pool of buyers.

The BYD Atto 3 is now available at the Vantage Automotive showroom, on the second floor of 305 Alexandra Road.
