Behold: the exceptionally green 2023 Genesis GV60

By topgear, 21 August 2021

Love the idea of the Hyundai Ioniq 5, but hate the styling? Try the Genesis GV60 on for size. It’s the second of three EVs Hyundai’s luxury offshoot will launch in the next 12 months – the first being the Electrified G80 (which will come to Europe after all), due towards the end of this year. The GV60 should go on sale soon after, sometime during the first half of 2022.

Because it’s still a way off, Genesis has only released a handful of pics and a limited amount of information. We do know that like the Ioniq 5, the GV60 is based on the clever ‘E-GMP’ platform. So we could make some assumptions about the tech, the size and range of the battery, the power and position of the motors and so-on. But we won’t.

Far as styling goes, we’re told Genesis is all about “athletic elegance”. Its smaller cars tend towards the former, and its bigger cars the latter, the company claims.

The GV60 has Genesis’ trademark split head- and taillights, a clamshell-style bonnet, intricate alloys and camera mirrors. The front grille is low down to better direct cool air at the batteries in the underbody. And don’t worry, we suspect it will be available in a number of other colours…

Inside you get separate HVAC controls (hooray!), a big touchscreen and something called a “Crystal Sphere” – a “sphere-shaped electronic transmission control that intuitively informs the driver of oncoming driving conditions”.

The screens for the camera mirrors look well positioned, like those in a Honda e. Look closely and you’ll see a button marked ‘Boost’ on the steering wheel. Intriguing.

More as we have it.
