Iconic car characters in movies and TV

Yep, you read that right. Not car movies, or movies about cars, but sentient vehicle characters. Cars that have a mind of their own, their own agenda and their own personalities. Recognise any of these characters?

K.I.T.T. - Pontiac Firebird Trans Am

The Knight Industries Two Thousand, or KITT for short. This car from the Knight Rider TV series was one of the coolest sentient car characters back in the day. A Pontiac Firebird Trans Am with artificial intelligence, piloted by none other than his highness The Hoff, David Hasselhoff.

Christine - Plymouth Fury

Based on Stephen King’s horror novel, the movie tells the tale of a fire engine red Fury that goes on a killing spree, leaving a wake of devastation behind before finally being crushed by the heroine. It might’ve been a literal baddie car, but an iconic one nonetheless.

Bumblebee - Chevrolet Camaro

One of the early TV heroes in car culture, Bumblebee made appearances in the Transformers cartoon series. In the early days, Bumblebee was instantly recognisable as the yellow VW Beetle in the transformers cartoon. In the Micheal Bay era films, Bumblebee became a yellow Camaro with black racing stripes. A fine choice for an Autobot in modern Hollywood.

Herbie - Volkswagen Beetle

A Volkswagen Beetle with a penchant for racing may seem like an odd concept for a movie or TV series. But this self-driving Bug wormed his way onto the silver screen with just a couple of racing stripes, its mischievous demeanour and the number “53” emblazoned on its sides and hood.
