A good set of wheels can make or break a car. Manufacturers often go for safer or more generic designs that are designed to appeal to the masses. But crucially, a good set of wheels has to perform well, and work as advertised. Weight savings, improved efficiency or reduce drag, durability.

In some cases, special edition vehicles are given a little more TLC during the design process. Some wheels may be styled to evoke the sense of nostalgia in more seasoned petrolheads, while others are made to entice the rich and affluent into ticking that particular options box for a set of 5-figure rims. Porsche 911 Sport Classic

The 997-generation 911 Sport Classic was a limited run model of just 250 cars. Rare as they were, these cars were modelled after the 1973 Carrera RS. As a tribute model, these Sport Classics were fitted with ducktail spoilers, and a lovely set of Fuchs Wheels. Throwback rims on a modern car are rarely lauded by hardcore enthusiasts, but there are a few exceptions. This is one of them.

Land Rover Defender

These steel wheels on the new generation of Defenders may seem a tad simple for some, others may like the appearance of such a simple design. At the very core, Land Rover Defenders are made to handle rugged terrain, often muddy and/or sandy. With wheels like these, cleaning would be less of a chore.

Any and all Alpina BMWs

Since the dawn of the brand in 1965, Alpina has been producing high-performance versions of BMWs. Their dedication to their craft has been demonstrated time and time again, so much so that Alpina themselves are recognized by the German Ministry of Transport as a manufacturer, as opposed to most tuning and performance specialists. A hallmark feature of any Alpina BMW is the starburst 20-spoke wheel design that the brand has adopted since the 1970s.

Spyker C8

The Spyker C8 was a rather unique sports car of its time. A cabin that seems to be inspired by an airplane, and an intricate timepiece. In fact, the entire car looks like a homage to the old days of aviation. A key feature of this astonishing automobile is the turbine-style wheels, along with a bevvy of other cool traits. But crucially, those wheels.
